PROGRAM:

1. Reception Catered by Blue Star - 6:PM

2. Experimental films from the 1920's featuring the Dada and constructivist cinema of Hans Richter and other pioneering avant-gardists of the period. Very rare, 16mm prints will be presented in the historic Fine Arts Center Theater via the state's most stunning 16mm motion picture projection. Hans Richter was considered one of the early Dadaists, a form of art, which was marked by nonsense and travesty, and destroyed current aesthetic art standards. He was a member of the Dada movement of 1916- 1919.

As part of the evening, Standish Lawder, host and TIE Artistic Director, will present a slide presentation and discussion. In addition to being recognized as one of the world's greatest avant-garde film historians, Lawder is also the son-in-law of Hans Richter and will present a very in-depth look at Richter and his peers. Standish Lawder taught film at Harvard and Yale Universities and has been internationally recognized for his work in avant-garde filmmaking. Recipient of Guggenheim and American Film Institute Fellowships along with several NEA grants, he received his PhD in Art History from Yale in 1967. Standish Lawder is the founder and director of The Denver Darkroom.
